MWBS 22. February 2019 Edition No. 1
Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay E-bikes and Sierra MTB review.
Our adventurous group of three, escaped from the weather of the UK to the expected warm and dry climate of Spain in early November.
The aim, a week away with four days guided mountain biking with Sierra MTB of Fuengirola, Malaga.
Our flight into Malaga arrived just after midday and allowed an afternoon and evening of escapism from normal life which was quickly clouded by red wine and Spanish food.
The next day, after a quick train trip and van ride, we arrived at Sierra’s MTB's main residence and our home for the next few days in Fuengirola.
Bikes shipped to Spain by Zerobikes.
Well in advance we had arranged for Zerobikes to ship our Rocky Mountains direct from the UK to Spain. A quick unpack, front wheels on and off for an afternoons ride.
Over the next four days, the going was mixed, with dusty conditions which quickly changed to rain that we would be proud of in the UK.
This just improved the riding as the slippery conditions matched much of what we are all used to on the Welsh border.
The trip into the mountains was relatively quick most mornings by van. Offloading about two thirds the way up the Sierra de Mijas. The last section though steep and rocky terrain was relatively easy on our Rocky Powerplays.
Then kilometers of great downhill, cross country with rocks, mud and sand.
I think my favourite section was called baby head raven due to the size of the rocks we rode over but probably not the latter puncture.
I was riding the 2019 Altitude Powerplay Carbon 70, while my two riding partners where on 2018 Altitude Powerplay Carbon 70s.
Our group from youngest to oldest is nearly 30 Years apart. One a great climber the other two probably better downhill but all old motor heads having ridden all sorts of off-road bikes with and without motors.
At the end of the climbs there was almost no difference between us at the top and because we could still breath normally the fun we had on the downhill was some of the best riding we have had in a while.
The bikes where amazingly reliable other than the odd puncture. 40+km per day with loads of battery left to get us home each night.
We can recommend Sierra MTB for good basic accommodation. Some of the guides where amazing and very helpful.
As for our Rocky Mountain Powerplays, great motors, progressive power delivery, excellent handling, perfect reliability. On the down side, we should have fitted mud/rain guards and we had to come home.
Can’t wait till the spring trip, maybe Bilbao?
